Rachael & John – A lovely Larkspur lodge wedding
After my first meeting with Rachael & John and hearing about all of their quirky ideas for the day, I was really excited to photograph their wedding at Larkspur lodge. I knew it was going to be an amazing day and it didn’t disappoint!
On the big day I arrived bright and early to the Mere Court hotel where Rachael and the girls were getting ready. The morning was really chilled and full of good humour, despite the fact that the Maid of honour had broken her ankle the night before and had spent the night in A&E!
It was then on to Larkspur lodge for the ceremony. Larkspur lodge is a rustic 18th century converted shippon barn nestled into the Cheshire countryside, still boasting many of it’s original features. I was awed by the ampitheatre style ceremony room where Rachael and John were to say their ‘i dos’. It was beautiful and so atmospheric, lit only by a few candles and fairy lights, the perfect romantic setting ♥
After the vows had been exchanged I took the newlyweds off around the surrounding country lanes for some relaxed couples portraits. We had such fun with these, as you can see from the photos. I love nothing more than capturing couples genuinely laughing, rather than posing with awkward smiles!
The rest of the day was then shot in my usual, laid back documentary style which captured all of the love, laughter and emotion of the day.
Just before the first dances began, we went out into the grounds of the lodge for some creative night shots, including a group sparkler photo which was so much fun. I also got chance to try a long exposure light painting using my home made light wand (multi-coloured fairy lights on a pole!). I love the effect of this photo, it’s so unique and quirky which I know is what Rachael and John wanted for their wedding photos.
I absolutely loved shooting Rachael and John’s beautiful wedding, the whole day was so relaxed and a real pleasure to be a part of. It was also great to shoot at Larkspur lodge for the first time, it’s now one of my all time favourite venues!

From the presentation box and the string wrapped selection of photos, to the actual images and the slide show you put together.
We set up a home cinema screening for ourselves; ate popcorn, drank champagne and watched the slide show. We laughed…I cried (happy tears) and we relived the day again, with all the added extras we missed during the whirlwind day.
We couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated photographer, so thank you for capturing our special day in a way which reflects who we are as a couple 💕
