Elly & Chris – A colourful DIY wedding – Chester town hall & Eccleston village hall

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you, because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”

Elly & Chris’s gorgeous Roald Dahl themed wedding was bursting with colour and quirky, DIY touches.

I arrived early in the morning to a lovely apartment in Chester where Elly was getting ready with the girls. Rather than have professional make up artist, Elly and her Mum had treated themselves to a pamper day out complete with in-store makeovers, which they were then able to recreate themselves for the big day. I particularly liked the girls’ super glittery eye make up!

I totally fell in love with Elly’s pretty, alternative style pink floral dress, it was so unique and very ‘her’. The bridesmaids all had similar pink floral dresses too!

After a lovely, relaxed morning Elly and her entourage were collected by a vintage Morris minor and driven to Chester town hall where the ceremony was to take place. The ceremony room was beautiful and almost church like with it’s huge stained glass windows. The ceremony itself was a laid back affair, full of laughter and happy tears.

It was then time for a few photos inside the town hall, including a fabulous confetti shot,  before we headed to Eccleston village hall for the reception. I was in awe when I saw the barn style room, there were so many creative, quirky and wonderful details, most of which Elly and her family and friends had made themselves. I especially loved the Roald Dahl theme, with all the tables being named after his books, and the most amazing wedding cakes I think I’ve ever seen .. all made by Elly’s mum.

Whilst everyone milled about outside in the garden of the hall, eating canapes and drinking Pimms under vintage style bunting,  I snapped away capturing all the fun in my usual documentary style.

After hilarious and endearing speeches, followed by a buffet style meal, I took the newlyweds for a walk around the surrounding country lanes to capture some relaxed, natural photos (with a few quirky ones thrown in!).

It was then onto the evening party with a fantastic playlist chosen by the couple that was guaranteed to get everyone on the dancefloor. Just before I left them to party the night away, I grabbed Elly & Chris for one last photo, a creative night shot involving smoke pellets and backlighting, which resulted in some funky and unusual images.

I absolutely loved photographing Elly and Chris’s wedding, the whole day was so laid back, full of fun, and totally unique to them as a couple. I’m not supposed to have favourites but …. ♥♥♥

We could not be happier with the results of our photographs. They are artistic, colourful, magical, happy and natural. Elly & Chris
