Jennie and Peter – A Jurassic park themed wedding at Manchester Museum
‘HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS’
It’s not every day I receive an enquiry that begins with ‘We are getting married beneath a giant Tyrannosaurus-Rex’ …..
So being a lover of all things quirky and non-traditional, I was very excited when Jennie and Peter asked me to photograph their Jurassic park themed wedding (Yes, JURASSIC PARK THEMED!!) and it didn’t disappoint.
The day started with bridal preparations in an apartment in Manchester city centre. As the ceremony wasn’t until 4.30pm, it was a really chilled out/relaxed afternoon. There were lots of interesting, Jurassic park themed details to photograph …. including dinosaur footprints on Jennie’s feet! I loved all the colourful, quirky bridesmaids shoes, definitely some of the cutest I’ve ever seen.
Once Jennie was in her dress (complete with a fabulous cape), I headed down the road to Manchester Museum where the ceremony was taking place. My second shooter was already there photographing the guests arriving and the groom waiting nervously. The ceremony room looked great all lit up, with ‘Stan’ the giant T-Rex towering over the guests!
After the lovely and heartfelt ceremony, the newlyweds spent time mingling with their guests, before heading outside for photographs in their wedding car…..a Jurassic Park Jeep! It was dark by then, so out came the flashes for a bit of creative lighting. After a few shots in the Jeep, it suddenly started snowing quite heavily and we were lucky enough to be able to get some beautiful, romantic photographs in the snow. Then it was back into the warm for a few more photos around the museum -it’s such an interesting venue with lots of great photo opportunities, so was perfect for a late December wedding.
The speeches took place in the main part of the museum, surrounded by all kinds of weird and wonderful artefacts and exhibits. After the speeches it was onto the dancing to tunes played by the fabulous ‘Graffiti Tree’. We left as the party was in full swing …….with the star of the show being a 7 foot dancing dinosaur!
